What it looks like when we turn up

Five trucks. One very busy grill.

Hot food made to order for a few hundred people, without a bain-marie in sight. Here's what a normal job looks like.

Inside the Porkie's servery — dozens of burgers boxed and lined up along the counter while the chef works the grill

Everything cooked on site

Nothing arrives pre-made. Burgers are built to order and lined up along the pass, so service keeps moving even at a few hundred heads.

What lands in your hands

Burger, loaded fries and slaw in a box that holds together. Made to be eaten standing up, with a drink in the other hand.

Our story

A family, a grill, and a whole lotta love

It started with ice cream in 2000. Rob's uncle bought the first van and spent years working school fairs and gala days around Sydney. When it came time to hand it on, Rob and Christine put their hands up — they wanted to take it on and build something out of it. He passed them the keys, they kept the name, and Mr Ricky is three vans now.

Porkie's is their own addition, seven years back: a second-hand trailer, a borrowed cast iron, and the stubborn belief that a burger should taste like someone actually gave a damn. That's two grill trucks now, five across the yard all up — which means we can usually say yes to a date, and take on jobs a single-truck operator has to knock back.

We know our suppliers by first name. We know regulars by their order. These days we spend most weekends parked up at weddings, birthdays and work sites across Sydney, feeding a few hundred people at a time and cleaning up after ourselves before we go.

No frills, no gimmicks. Just honest tucker from a husband and wife who've been up since four-thirty seasoning the grill.

Packages are set prices, but they're not set in stone. Want to swap a burger in, mix two tiers, feed a smaller crowd or build something that isn't on this page? Say so in your enquiry and we'll work it into the quote. Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options are available — chat these through with Rob or Christine so we bring the right setup. All allergies and dietary requirements to be advised at booking. For a smoother service we recommend picking one beef and one chicken burger; the more deep-fried items on the list, the longer service takes.

Where Rob and Christine started

Mr Ricky Soft Serve Mr Ricky Soft Serve · an RC Catering brand

Mr Ricky

Before the burgers, there were the ice cream vans. Mr Ricky has been doing school fairs, gala days and festivals since 2000, handed down through the family and still going — three vans now. One of them runs as Mrs Ricky — that one's Christine's, and she'll tell you it's the better van.

Roll one in behind the grill and dessert takes care of itself: soft serve, sundaes, waffle cones, choc tops and slushies, served fresh once mains are done. It's the bit guests remember and the bit kids lose their minds over.

Booking a fair, fête or school event and don't need the burgers? The vans go out on their own too, and with three of them we can cover a big site — just say so in your enquiry.

The regulars reckon

Word on the street

“That pork belly ought to be illegal. Took three of us and we still wanted more. Rob's a legend.”

Sharon — regular

“Catered our engagement. 80 people, no drama, everyone raving about the burgers a fortnight later.”

Mitch & Tahlia — engagement party

“I drive past two other burger joints to get to Porkie's. That's all you need to know.”

The Porkie's promise

What you get with every booking

The bits that don't show up on a menu, but decide whether the day runs smoothly.

Aussie suppliers

Local butcher, local baker, local farmers. We keep the money in the neighbourhood and we know every supplier by first name.

Ready when you are

We roll up an hour and a half to two hours early, work to your run sheet, and food lands when the schedule says it should. Then we pack down and leave the site clean.

Every dietary sorted

Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan all available. Tell us the numbers when you book and nobody at your event goes without.

We bring our own power

The truck runs on its own lithium battery setup, so a paddock, a park or a car park works just as well as a venue with a power point.

Quick answers

Before you ask

The things people ring up about most. Anything not covered here, give us a ring — we'd rather have the conversation.

What's the minimum headcount?

Fifty guests. That's what makes it worth bringing a truck, a team and a full grill setup out to your place. Got a smaller crowd? Get in touch anyway — depending on the date and where you are, we may still be able to sort something.

How far will you travel?

Food truck hire across Sydney and surrounds — we'll go a fair way for the right gig. A travel fee kicks in outside our usual area, and we'll be straight with you about it in the quote — no surprises on the day.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options are all available. These need a quick chat with Rob or Christine so we bring the right setup, and all allergies and dietary requirements must be advised when you book — not on the day.

What does an alternating menu mean?

On bigger jobs we serve two burgers rather than one: half your guests get one, half get the other. It speeds service up considerably and gives everyone a look at what their mate got.

What's included in the price per guest?

A burger and a side of fries, cooked to order on site. Package prices are per guest plus GST. Starters, the kids menu and ice cream are added on top, and a travel fee may apply depending on where you are — we'll set the full amount out in your quote.

Do you need power at the venue?

No. The truck runs on its own lithium battery setup, so a paddock, a park or a gravel car park works just as well as a venue with a power point. All we need is somewhere level to park with room to open the hatch.

How do I lock in a date?

Send the enquiry form on this page, or Ring us on 0414 739 696. They'll talk through the menu, confirm he's free, and a small deposit holds the date. The balance is settled on the day.

How far in advance should we book?

For weddings and Christmas work parties, six to twelve months is sensible — those dates go early. For birthdays, club days and site lunches a few weeks is usually plenty. If your date is close, ring us rather than waiting on the form — we may have had a cancellation.

What happens if it rains?

We cook regardless. The grill sits inside the truck and the hatch has an awning over it, so weather doesn't stop service. What you'll want to sort is somewhere for your guests to stand and eat — a marquee, a verandah, or a shed all do the job.

How much space do you need?

Somewhere reasonably level to park, with room to open the hatch and awning on one side and clear access to drive in and out. Grass, gravel and bitumen all work. Send through a photo of the spot with your enquiry and Rob will tell you straight away whether it'll fit.

Do you do school fairs, fêtes and gala days?

That's where the family started, back in 2000. The Mr Ricky ice cream vans go out on their own for fairs and gala days — no burger minimum required — and with three vans we can cover a big site. Mention it in your enquiry and Rob and Christine will work out the right setup.

How long does set-up take?

We roll up an hour and a half to two hours before service to set up and fire the grills. Once we're going, service moves quickly — quicker still if you take our tip and pick one beef and one chicken burger.
